Pittsburgh Teachers' Technology Summer Boot Camp

Point Park University in Pittsburgh is offering a Teachers’ Technology Boot Camp in two summer sessions for K-12 and post-secondary teachers.
Teachers looking to incorporate more online learning into their classes – or simply increase their own knowledge and skills in the area – can register for convenient courses at Point Park University this summer.
The University is offering the 2012 Teachers’ Technology Boot Camp in two sessions:

  • SESSION I “Online and Virtual Teaching and Learning,” May 16–June 20 (Wednesday evenings and online modules)
  • SESSION II “Educational Technology Applications to Teaching and Learning,” June 26 –Aug 4 (Saturdays and online modules)

Both sessions are open to teachers of all levels, from K-12 to post-secondary to higher education, plus adult education trainers. Each session offers three graduate credits. Teachers may register for one or both sessions.
Session I
Session I, “Online and Virtual Teaching and Learning,” is for teachers who want to learn basic skills about the design and delivery of online and blended courses. Course topics include:

  • Hands-on introduction to designing an online or hybrid class (student’s choice of content area)
  • Best practices and quality standards
  • Engaging students
  • Models of course design and delivery
  • Instructional strategies
  • New instructional technologies and applications
  • Social media for teaching and learning
  • Historical roots of distance, online and blended education

Session II
Session II, “Educational Technology Applications to Teaching and Learning,” is designed for teachers who want to learn educational technology skills that can be applied immediately to their courses. This boot camp includes:

  • Reaching the 21st century learner
  • Webcasts and videoconferencing
  • Student response systems (clickers)
  • Copyright and plagiarism
  • Collaborative and project-based learning
  • Social networks, mobile and game-based learning
  • Teaching and learning in virtual worlds
  • Professional development in the 21st century

With online and blended learning on the rise, and increased rapid growth projected for all levels of teaching, Point Park’s boot camp is timed to provide teachers with the skills and knowledge they need now.
