We wrote back in September about the new DimDim 6. As it had reached 6 million users perhaps today’s announcement comes as no suprise.
Founded in 2007, Dimdim created critical real-time communication technologies such as presence, messaging and screen sharing. It was one of the first such technologies TheELearningSite staff had tried which was in a price range to be affordable to everyone.
With the acquisition, salesforce.com gains Dimdim’s real-time communication technologies, along with a team of world-class developers experienced in building cloud-based collaboration services. Salesforce.com reports that they will use the acquisition to bring new real-time communication capabilities to the Chatter collaboration platform, mirroring the proven Facebook model of combining collaboration and communication into an integrated service.
The first noticeable change will be the cessation of free account. DimDim wrote to all their customers today to say, “Your free Dimdim account will remain active until March 15, 2011. After that date, you will no longer be able to access your free Dimdim account.”
If you are a DimDim user, let us know in comments how the acquisition has affected you.
