School launches app class

The next “Angry Birds” phenom could come from a local elementary school.

Kilgour School in Mount Lookout is launching an after-school app development class together with Northern Kentucky University, local nonprofit Partnership for Innovation in Education and national funding partners.

The program will teach 20 to 25 students in grades 1-6 how to make a smartphone app this month.

They’ll design it themselves using a programming tool called “App Inventor,” which was created by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Google to help non-programmers build apps.
